Artist's Description
The Deserted Village or Booley Village at the foot of Slievemore leaves you with an eerie feeling. Its strange to see so many homes abandoned in Ireland with no more contemporary structures in their place. Its believed that for the most part people emigrated or moved nearer the shore during the Blight of the 1840s. It was used, 'til the 1940s, as a "Booley". Young people stayed there while tending livestock that were moved to higher ground for the summer months.
